DPS, Capturing the Breath of Nature on a Digital Canvas
by LED.ART EDITORIAL
DPS is a Korean 3D artist who reinterprets extraordinary moments found within the rhythm and mystery of nature. His works balance serenity and freshness, familiarity and strangeness, inviting viewers into a deeper sense of contemplation and immersion. By capturing fleeting moments of everyday life through the rhythms of nature, his art encourages us to reobserve the world from a renewed perspective.
In this interview, we dive into the mind of DPS, an artist who delivers such distinctive visual experiences.
Q1. Hello, could you briefly introduce yourself?
A1. Hello, I’m DPS, a media artist creating new visual experiences through digital media and various forms of 3D artwork. I explore the boundaries between technology and art, presenting immersive works that draw viewers into my digital world.
Q2. There are many genres within visual arts. What led you to become a 3D media artist?
A2. I’ve always felt the greatest thrill in transforming images that once existed only in my imagination into tangible visual forms. I discovered how much joy I found in immersing myself in each stage of the creation process. That led me to realize that 3D art is the field in which I can be the most passionate and fulfilled. So, I decided to pursue this path.
Q3. Where do you usually draw inspiration for your work?
A3. I’m mainly inspired by vast natural landscapes and high-definition nature documentaries. I enjoy reinterpreting nature’s organic beauty, the textures shaped by light and shadow, and the overwhelming sense of scale that nature conveys—translating them into a digital visual language.

Q4. Do you have any role models or artists whose work has left a strong impression on you?
A4. Rather than naming one specific person, I consider all artists who consistently share their personal work on social media as my role models. Technical mastery is important, of course, but I’m most inspired by their dedication and passion—their ability to keep creating without losing momentum. That consistency always gives me fresh motivation and energy.
Q5. Could you introduce the tools or programs you mainly use in your work?
A5. I primarily work with Cinema 4D and Houdini. Cinema 4D allows for intuitive design and quick iteration, while Houdini offers powerful procedural effects and simulation capabilities. When these two tools are combined, I can express my ideas in the most effective visual form. Blending their strengths allows me to create richer and more dynamic visuals.

Q6. Is there a particular message or emotion you hope to convey through your work?
A6. I believe modern people are constantly exposed to busy, overwhelming streams of visual information. Through my work, I hope that—even if just for a brief moment—viewers can set aside their cluttered thoughts and feel a sense of calm and rest. Beyond visual beauty, I aim to create works that offer emotional comfort as well.
Q7. Is there a piece among your works that you cherish the most? If so, could you tell us why?
A7. The piece I’m most attached to is Luminus Scape. It depicts spherical forms drifting peacefully in a quiet, uninhabited space. The creation process itself was deeply healing for me, and the theme of “serenity” which I value greatly was fully captured in the final result. It remains one of the projects I’m most satisfied with.

Q8. What has been the biggest challenge for you as an artist, and how did you overcome it?
A8. One of the biggest challenges is the constant pressure to become an artist whose “next work is always anticipated.” There are times when I face creative blocks or fall into a slump, but I’ve learned that the best remedy is to clear my mind and keep my hands moving. Instead of overthinking, I focus on the act of creating itself. By immersing myself in the process and working consistently, I naturally find my way through those difficult moments.
Q9. Are there any changes or trends in the digital art scene that you find particularly interesting right now?
A9. Without a doubt, the most fascinating trend is the fusion of AI and digital art. The speed at which AI technology is evolving is truly remarkable. Rather than rejecting it, I find it inspiring to see artists who skillfully incorporate AI as a creative tool to express their own unique style. I’m also exploring how I can create meaningful synergy with these emerging technologies.
Q10. What would you like to see from LED.ART, or what role do you hope it will play?
A10. I hope LED.ART will continue to grow beyond simply being a place where artworks are displayed. I imagine it becoming a vibrant platform where artists and the public can connect, communicate, and inspire one another through visual experiences. I’d love to see diverse creative experiments reach an even wider audience through this space.
Q11. Could you share your upcoming plans or artistic goals?
A11. I hope to maintain the dreamy, serene atmosphere that I love, while expanding the scale of my work to depict vast natural landscapes through my own artistic sensibility. My goal is to create media art that offers an overwhelming sense of immersion—one that feels not just like watching, but like stepping directly into the space itself.
